I still remember when I was 8 years old and my sister registered as a Democrat in South Dakota. My father's response was "you're lucky your grandparents aren't alive to hear about this." Being raised as a Catholic and a farmer I guess this was a close to blasphemy as you could get.
By the time I registered as a Democrat 10 years later, I guess they considered me a lost cause.
